An iPhone insurance review is probably one of the hardest topics to research on the internet today in my opinion. For some reason I haven’t been able to find a lot of information, as i have a feeling that quite a few of the large ‘high street’ providers are making a killing. For example, in the UK, a not-to-be-named providers (guess what folks, there is only one!) is quoting 15 for comprehensive insurance per month. To me, I just find that incredible considering the average contract tariff is only 35 per month.
I lost 2 brand new iPhones within a 2 month period earlier this year. I didnt have any insurance either! I was stupidly reluctant to take out a policy due to the fact I was being scared off by O2’s 15 per month product. I was only paying 35 per month for the actual tariff, and i could believe I had to pay almost half of that again just to insure the headset. Crazy!
There truly is some sort of monopoly, and I wanted to write about my experiences to hopefully save you all some money! My review of the top five ways to save is below!
1. Bank account insurance cover- I know for a fact that many premium account holders within the UK are automatically covered up to a certain extent. When I checked with my bank, they were happy to cover for a cost of up to 350 for free!!! Amazing right?
2. Independent online insurance companies – Did you know that you can make up to a 50% saving on the insurance policy compared to the high street provider. Just get online and do some research. Did you know that a search for ‘iPhone insurance’ in Google returned over 62 million results. There are plenty of great insurance providers out there folks!
3. Home contents insurance cover – Once again, a usually unknown source of cheap cover. For an additional 1.56 per month they gave me full cover of up to 400, and it also wouldn’t affect my no claims bonus! Unfortunately my new iPhone 3Gs is worth 600 so i had to go down the independent route.
Please note though, that this particular type of policy will not cover you for the fraudulant calls made. Also do the usual and check the excess payment amount, and also the total max payout! Remember iPhones can cost up to 600
4.How much should I be paying a month? As mentioned previously O2’s insurance plan is 15 per month – I find this amount outrageous! Get online yourself and do some research. Did you know that ‘iPhone 3G insurance’ produced 3,640,000 results on google at the time this lens was published? There are plenty of companies out there begging for your business, why dont you contact them, sort out a deal, and make everyone happy?.
I would say a good monthly figure would be between 8 and 10 per month
I have also written a pretty cool article describing this exact topic called iPhone 3G insurance – 3 easy ways to save money.
5. What is the best independent iPhone 3G insurance company out there? The best I could personally find on the open market was from a company called ‘Insure it 2U’. Their product is underwritten by Equity Redstar who are FSA regulated. But the best part is that there is no 12 month contractual tie in which you would usually expect.
Their current premium works out at 8.24 per month – not a bad saving!!
So there you have it! My iPhone insurance review!
